About me.

 Since the end of 2020 and the start of 2021, I've grown as a person. I can be open-minded, I can speak to others and communicate my thoughts clearly and I have a very laid back nature. For those who don't know me from the 20 thousand posts I've made before, hi, I'm Kiro Wikaire. or Wikari or Whittaker depending on which teacher you ask. But anyways on to the central point. I have turned 15 and honestly it feels like I sped through life. I spend most of my time in the gym and training with my personal trainer so my days are very busy. Also with arataki as a course I attend I go to that as well. I feel comfortable around my comrades in arataki and I like the fact that I have been given the chance to partake in that oppurtunity. Year 11 is honestly not that bad if you get your head out of the clouds (should be saying this to Luke but his head is in the clouds) Stress can play a big part in your preformance at school so I usually go to sleep when I get home or I start playing video-games to de-stress, but usually I'm really bad at the game so it doesn't work. Sorry not sorry. But so far I've enjoyed the experience that BOIC has given me and I want to go to Year 13 and go to university later on in life.

Whenever you feel like you're being watched, it's this guy. (not me I swear)

Science.

 Now to start off this year, I'm going to be reflecting on my progress through science in term one.

We learned about numerous micro-organisms and most of which were harmful for the immune system. As we learned about these micro-organisms, we found ways on how to combat them with antibiotics, we learned about immunity and the effects these micro-organisms cause to the environment and on the immune system. The immune system fights the foreign micro-organism by targeting them with white blood cells, the bodies defence against these micro-organisms. We learned what affected them like PH, carbon cycle, compost, temperatures, blood cells and how they breathe. Anaerobic is without air and aerobic is with air. Micro-organisms need to have a place with moisture, so preserving some foods by drying them out can prevent infection. The life processes of a micro-organisms can be described as MRS GREN and I will explain the letters meanings.

M-movement.

R-respiration.

S-sensitiviy.
G-growth.
R-reproduction.
E-excretion.
N-nutrition

See a micro-organism isn't deemed "living" if they do not have all these qualities.

Tests.

Covid-19.

Honestly this test was pretty straight-forward as I had the information necessary in order to achieve with excellence so I thoroughly enjoyed that topic. Covid-19 was a really tough time for our school as many of us couldn't do much and we were stuck inside our houses and we had to do work, so I could relate and talk about the many factors around covid-19 as I had done extensive research.

Bacteria, fungi and viruses.

This topic was straight-forward as well as it was just about using what we learned to explain come of the micro-organisms traits, biology and effects on the immune system to name a few. Also for example, we learned about how bacteria reproduce by binary fission, a process where the bacteria can duplicate itself. Fungi can also reproduce by fragmentation, where the sporangium explodes, releasing spores into the air so the spores can grow in other environments. Viruses reproduce on their own, because they require a living host in order to reproduce.

To me, now I know ways on how to avoid being infected by such micro-organisms and how to fight them. For example washing your hands with hand sanitiser, avoiding infected people and using antibiotics to help your immune system in combating the foreign micro-organisms.

Respiration.

Not all living things need oxygen to breathe, as some micro-organisms are anaerobic, meaning that they can respirate without oxygen. We learned about this from the topic of micro-organisms. Living things need oxygen to create more energy, but anaerobes do the same without oxygen, just with less energy produced than an aerobic micro-organism.

The respiration of a micro-organism is dependent on the environment they are in and what kind respiration they use. For example, an anaerobic micro-organism cannot survive inside an oxygen-rich environment, as they die and vice versa with aerobic micro-organisms, aerobic micro-organisms cannot respire without oxygen and will later die.

Conclusion.

I felt pretty great about the work that was given to me, I enjoyed the fact that the teacher went out of his way to help me and the fact that it was straight-forward to learn, as all I had to do was listen and follow instructions.

A thing that surprised me was the fact that most of the uncooperative students were actually trying and that was due to the fact Mr Prakash is a great teacher. He goes out of his way to help those students and they react in a productive way in return.

I already knew some things about the bacteria and fungi unit but that was about it. Over time I learned about the Mrs Gren of fungi, bacteria and virus.

Overall, great subjects, great teacher and an all round friendly environment to learn, which made me want to purposely come to school.
